Freda Rebecca Gold Mine Limited (FRGM) has filed a formal criminal complaint with the police against people illegally operating within its mining lease.

In a public notice, Managing Director Patrick Maseva-Shayawabaya said the complaint, registered under RRB number 63892257, targets unauthorised miners who have been extracting gold ore from parts of Mining Lease 21 (ML21).

The affected areas, known collectively as the Western Side, include Gwiringwindi, Headgear, Morocco, and the GMB area, all of which fall within FRGM’s legally held lease, registered under Surveyor General Number 1845/1994.

The notice warns the public that anyone operating within ML21 without written permission should contact FRGM to check their status and complete the required paperwork to legalise their operations. Said Shayawabaya:

“Only persons who have presented their details for verification and filled in the necessary documentation will be deemed immune from criminal prosecution.”

The company set aside a two-day period, from 28 to 29 January 2026, for individuals to visit the mine site for a verification process.

Participants were asked to bring their national identification, along with any relevant maps, GPS coordinates, or agreements.
