Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. HARARE, Feb. 6 (NewsDay Live) — A community-based organisation, Selecta Base Foundation, on Friday extended a helping hand to elderly residents and People Living With Disabilities (PWDs) in Sunningdale, Harare, through the donation of food hampers.

Speaking at the event, the foundation’s leader, Arnold Chigwerewe, said caring for vulnerable members of society is a shared responsibility that does not depend on wealth.

“You don’t have to wait until you are rich to help others,” Chigwerewe said. “It starts with compassion, unity and action.”

The outreach programme was held under the theme, “Together We Can Make a Difference.”

Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume commended Chigwerewe for bringing the foundation’s activities to the city, noting that such initiatives not only support vulnerable groups but also contribute to social cohesion and employment creation through community events.

“Bringing such activities to Harare not only entertains but also creates employment and unites people,” Mafume said. “We applaud Arnold and his team for this initiative and for caring for the most vulnerable among us.”

Mafume also acknowledged ongoing service delivery challenges facing residents, including water shortages, sewer bursts and deteriorating road infrastructure.

“We are aware of the water shortages, sewer bursts and poor road infrastructure,” he told the gathering. “Council is actively working with government ministries to implement sustainable solutions.”
