Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A 41-year-old woman collapsed and died inside a betting shop in Bulawayo’s Central Business District at around 11 AM on Wednesday.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, identified the deceased as Josephine Makiwa of Mpopoma suburb. Said Msebele:
“The now deceased Josephine Makiwa, aged 41, of Mpopoma, entered into the betting house, sat on the chair, suddenly started vomiting and collapsed.
“She became unconscious, and the punters who were inside the shop called an ambulance, which pronounced her dead upon arrival.”
Police said that investigations are underway to establish the cause of death. The body was taken to a local mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Inspector Msebele conveyed condolences to the deceased’s family, adding that further details would be released once inquiries are complete.
In a separate incident, a 20-year-old man took his own life in Dzivarasekwa Extension, Harare, after suffering heavy losses in the gambling game widely known as Kandege.
Ashley Patrick Magarira is reported to have committed suicide after losing US$800, money that had been set aside for his brother’s school fees, in the gambling game Aviator.
