Four armed robbers overpowered two security guards at Celebration Church in Westgate, making off with US$500 and two laptops.
The suspects, armed with a pistol and a rifle, tied the guards’ legs with wires and electrical cables before locking them in the guard room.
They then broke into the church office using an unidentified tool, smashed a steel cabinet, and stole a cash safe containing US$500 along with two HP laptops.
The robbers also searched the guards, taking US$30 and two Itel cellphones, and assaulted them with a knobkerrie.
The security guards were only freed when a Safeguard driver arrived later.
Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, Harare provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He said:
“Police are investigating an armed robbery case at the church premises in Westgate.
“The security guards sustained minor injuries and are in stable condition.
“The total value stolen is US$620, and nothing has been recovered as of yet.
“A live round was found in the guard room where the security guards were bound.”
