Alleged Guruve Serial Killer Claims He Ate Flesh

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Anymore Zvitsva, the alleged serial killer accused of murdering 25 people in Guruve, has claimed that he ate the flesh of one of his victims and sold human body parts to traditional healers and self-proclaimed prophets.

First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa recently visited Zvitsva at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison in Harare, where she sought to understand the mindset of the man believed to be one of the country’s worst serial killers.

Zvitsva, who is still wheelchair-bound after being shot in the leg during his arrest, told Mnangagwa that he cooked human flesh and sold a victim’s breasts for ritual purposes.

Zvitsva went on to describe what he said was his first killing, although he insisted he had not intended to murder the victim. He said:

“It’s hard for me to understand how I started this, but what I still remember is that I was hungry and went to break into a home searching for food, but there was no one, and I ended up stealing about 10 kilogrammes of mealie-meal.

“I left with a conviction that with what was there, the woman might have had some cash and decided that later that evening I would return.

“Around 10 pm, near midnight, I returned, knocking on the door, and the owner asked who it was, and I replied that she had been robbed.”

Zvitsva said the woman pointed at him, accusing him of stealing the 10kg bag of mealie-meal, and he laughed it off.

He added that when the woman opened the door and tried to chase him away, he torched her with a cellphone and then realised she was holding an iron axe. Said Zvitsva:

“I panicked and realised that if I did not attack first, I would be overpowered. I then attacked her with the back of a knife (a Colombian knife) on the forehead. She started crying before retreating with more power.”

Zvitsva said a struggle broke out, forcing him to drop his cellphone so he could grab the axe.

In the commotion, he said, the woman managed to pick up her child along with Zvitsva’s phone and ran off into the bush. Said Zvitsva:

“I became afraid that this woman is powerful like a soldier. If I followed her, she would beat me up, but I thought of my phone, which would be used as evidence, so I took the axe and started following her.

“My phone had a light, so she was struggling to switch it off, and that is when I spotted her.”

“When I came close to her, I pleaded for my phone, but she denied, saying it would be used as evidence to the police.

“I then told her I would kill her, but she never took any of it before grabbing a brick and hitting me in the stomach.

“I became furious and then charged towards her before hitting her with the back of an axe.”

Zvitsva said the woman refused to let go and grabbed his legs, prompting him to pull out a knife and stab her in the back. He added:

“That is when I realised I had stabbed someone. This was when my journey of killing people began in 2024.”

Zvitsva said that after stabbing the woman, he fled home, adding that life has never been the same, even in his dreams.

He confessed to killing his niece after she questioned him and accused him of stealing. He said he cut her breasts and gave them to Nathan Churweni, who claimed they would boost his gold mine, but never paid him after learning the police were on his trail.

Zvitsva said he roasted some of the flesh, found it unpalatable, and burnt the rest, mixing the ashes into his lotion and using them with magical trees from the bush to aid in fortune-telling. He claimed this gave him powers to locate hidden money in houses.

He also admitted giving blood to self-styled prophets Junioius Kasinauyo and Gidza Dhorobha, receiving US$200 in return.

Zvitsva pleaded for forgiveness from the First Lady, President Mnangagwa, and the nation.
