A 20-year-old woman from Bikita has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of raping her husband’s 15-year-old half-brother.

The accused appeared before Masvingo Regional Magistrate Innocent Bepura on 21 May 2026, facing a charge of aggravated indecent assault. Despite pleading not guilty, she was convicted following a full trial.

The court heard from prosecutor Nixon Chamisa that the incident occurred in February 2026.

The teenage victim, who resided with his uncle in Soma Village, Bikita, had visited his older brother’s homestead to ask for money to cover sports expenses.

Upon arrival, he discovered his brother was away. The accused invited the boy to stay the night, assuring him that her husband would return the following day.

Later that evening, the accused prepared a bed for the victim in the dining room before retiring to her own bedroom.

However, she later returned to the dining room and began showing the teenager pornographic videos on her mobile phone.

After fondling him, she briefly went back to her room, returned wearing only her underwear, and forcefully dragged the boy into her bedroom, where she raped him.

The following morning, the woman threatened the victim to ensure his silence, claiming her husband had a history of violence at his workplace. She warned the boy that if he spoke out and her husband found out, he would be killed.

Terrified, the boy returned home and confided in his aunt. Instead of offering support, the aunt beat him and ordered him to keep quiet. She then contacted the boy’s mother, asking her to collect her son.

Once in his mother’s care, the victim finally disclosed the full details of the assault. Defying pushback from other relatives who opposed involving the authorities, the mother immediately reported the matter to the police.

In her defence, the accused denied the charges of non-consensual sexual intercourse. She claimed the teenager had initiated the physical contact and maintained that she only gave in because she had been “sex-starved” during her husband’s month-long absence.

Magistrate Bepura dismissed her claims, finding her guilty as charged and sentencing her to 15 years behind bars.
