The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says 530 motorcyclists have been arrested so far under its ongoing nationwide operation targeting unregistered motorbikes and non-compliance with road rules.
In an update issued on 6 June 2026, police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the operation, dubbed “Register Motor-Bikes and Wear Helmets,” follows a statement released on 14 January 2026 on the conduct of motorcyclists who fail to comply with road traffic rules and regulations.
Of the 530 arrests made to date, 447 are for operating unregistered or plateless motorcycles, while 83 are for riding without protective helmets.
Police said they remain concerned that some motorcyclists continue to disregard road traffic laws by using unregistered bikes, failing to wear helmets, carrying excess passengers and engaging in reckless riding.
The ZRP reiterated that all motorcyclists, passengers and road users are required to comply with the provisions of the Road Traffic Act [Chapter 13:11] and other applicable regulations.
The public has been advised that the operation will continue across the country, with officers conducting regular compliance checks and enforcement activities “for the safety of Zimbabweans.”
“Those found violating road traffic regulations will be arrested without fear or favour,” Nyathi said.
