Several passengers escaped with minor injuries after a kombi overturned at the corner of Jefferson and Arlington Roads in Hatfield on Friday morning.
The Toyota Hiace, which was carrying 18 passengers, was travelling from Seke L in Chitungwiza to Harare’s Central Business District when the driver lost control, and the vehicle veered off the road before landing on its side.
Passengers who spoke at the scene said the driver appeared to lose braking power while approaching the intersection. In an attempt to avoid colliding with vehicles ahead, he swerved sharply, causing the omnibus to topple.
The crash adds to growing concern over the safety of commuter omnibuses plying the Chitungwiza-Harare route, where commuters have repeatedly complained about speeding.
