Victor Matemadanda, Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Mozambique and the Kingdom of Eswatini, has died.

The news was announced on Sunday by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Ministry Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana, who said Matemadanda passed away on Saturday night.

“Ambassador Victor Matemadanda passed away last night. This is a deeply saddening loss,” wrote Mangwana on X.

“Dr Matemadanda served as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the Republic of Mozambique and the Kingdom of Eswatini.

“Sincere condolences go to His Excellency the President, whom he represented with dedication, and to his family, friends, colleagues and the nation at large.”

No official cause of death was given. However, unverified claims by social media personality Rutendo Matinyarare suggested Matemadanda developed vomiting and diarrhoea after a meal at his Harare home before dying later that night.

“Apparently, the Ambassador went home from Mozambique to his Mount Pleasant home, where he ate a meal with his family. Soon after he began to vomit and diarrhea. He was taken to the West End clinic where he passed on,” wrote Matinyarare.

Before his posting to Mozambique and Eswatini, Matemadanda served as ZANU-PF Political Commissar and national chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association.
