Zimbabwe and Zambia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in combating corruption and economic crime as part of implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) which encourages bilateral cooperation in fight against graft.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the ongoing UNICAC conference taking place in Livingstone, Zambia aimed at accelerating the implementation of the UN Convention Against Corruption in Southern Africa.
In her remarks at the signing ceremony, Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission (ZACC) Chairperson, Justice Loice Matanda Moyo, expressed confidence the agreement will go a long way in ensuring the two sister countries achieves best practices in the fight against corruption.
Zambia Anti-Corruption Acting Director General, Mrs Rosemary Khuzwayo, pledged the country commitment to abide by the agreement to ensure that transborder crimes between the two countries are fought expeditiously.
The agreement will assist the two countries to jointly foster mutual cooperation in the fight against corruption, money laundering and other improprieties through sharing of information, technical assistance and mutual legal assistance.
ZACC has moved a gear up in fighting corruption in Zimbabwe with the anti-graft body making high profile arrests and recovering looted property worth millions of dollars. ZACC is now advocating for prosecuting powers in order to be able to expedite conclusion of corruption cases.
