While addressing mourners who had gathered to bury his 34-year-old nephew, the other acting president, Kembo Mohadi, shared the government’s drought relief strategy with his family and friends, The Standard reports.

According to the publication:

Mohadi said a high-powered committee was now in place to procure grain from the world over, making an undertaking that not a single Zimbabwean should starve. For the first time the government would import genetically modified grain

  • Mohadi reportedly said;

    As government we will do everything within our power to ensure that no one starves. This means we will go out of our way; we will forego certain projects to feed the nation.

    Zimbabwe in 2019 was ravaged by a drought so dire, it left thousands of cattle dead, Kariba with no enough water to generate electricity and 7.7 Million people in need of food aid. Zimbabwe is likely to have another drought in 2020.
