Kwekwe: Residents in the gold mining Midlands city were this week kept in suspense when a local nurse and her son were being tested for the deadly coronavirus following the mother’s recent visit to Portugal.
However, they were relieved Wednesday when word trickled in that the pair had tested negative from the killer bug after going through tests.
The nurse, Fortune Mutemererwa, recently travelled to Portugal to visit her husband who is based in the European country.
However, on their return, they were forced into self-isolation at their Mbizo residence after fellow residents accused them of carrying the dreaded coronavirus.
They later took tests at the Kwekwe hospital before their samples were sent to Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospital in Harare.
The results were released Wednesday indicating they tested negative.
“We have received the test results from Wilkins in Harare of Fortune Mutemererwa and Brian Mutemererwa of Mbizo. The results came out as negative,” an official from the Ministry of Health for Kwekwe district told journalists.
Social media users in Kwekwe were excited Wednesday as they shared updates of the negative results.
The city has no confirmed case of the coronavirus pandemic, which is spreading rapidly across the globe.
