The Shurugwi district COVID-19 taskforce has been urged to marshal resources towards the setting up of an isolation and treatment facility at Shurugwi district hospital.
The Midlands Provincial COVID-19 taskforce descended on Shurugwi this Tuesday to assess the district’s preparedness in handling COVID-19 cases.
Chairperson of the taskforce, who is also midlands minister of state Senator Larry Mavhima, urged the Shurugwi district task force to come out of their shells and divert devolution funds to set up a ten-bed upmarket isolation and treatment centre.
“ as Midlands we have zero cases of COVID 19 but we need to be prepared to fight this pandemic hence I am saying let’s have this centre ready to receive cases in four days time,” said Senator Larry Mavhima Midlands Minister of State.
Legislators from Shurugwi highlighted the need for stakeholders in the district to work together in order to effectively fight the pandemic.
“…we are happy to receive our senator who is the midlands minister of state. our plea is to have him assist us in bringing on board corporates for this worthy cause,” said Edmond Mukaratigwa, Shurugwi South legislator.
“…the people of Shurugwi welcome the lockdown extension .our hope is to maintain the COVID-19 adherence,” said Robson Nyathi, Shurugwi North legislator.
Shurugwi District has earmarked four treatment and isolation centres, with the facility at the district hospital set to be a holding centre for serious cases meant to be transferred to the provincial treatment facility at Gweru Provincial Hospital.
