Africa University donates 1,000 litres of sanitasers to hospitals

AFRICA University (AU) has donated 1,000 liters of hand sanitizers to two hospitals in Manicaland province to help meet current urgent needs in the ognoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and technology Development Minister Professor Amon Murwira commended Africa University for taking an active role in the fight against the spread of Covid 19.

“Fellow Zimbabweans let us move forward with pride and determination,” said Prof Murwira.

“Let us fight Covid-19 with science and innovation. You will make progress by implementing ideas; so, you have done it and you are doing it make sanitisers and don’t feel constrained.”

Manicaland Minister of State Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba thanked the learning institution for the generous donation and urged the university to continue with the initiative as more institutions in the province are in need of such essentials to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“I want to sincerely take this opportunity to the AU for the donation of sanitizers which could not have come at a better time because we are faced with a challenge of protective materials,” said the minister.

Africa University Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Peter Mageto said the institution will manufacture more protective equipment and essentials as a way of complementing government in the fight against the spread of the Corona Virus pandemic.

“Africa University is a Pan African University so we are not just setting the pace we are not only for our country but we are also for the continent so this spirit will continue to echo across the continent,” he said.

Africa University is also the process of making a reusable face mask which has a filter that will enable users to be better protected from Covid-19.
