MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the party had noted Justice Tawanda Chitapi of the Harare High Court’s ruling on its application seeking to stop the MDC-T party from recalling more of its MPs from parliament.
Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom soon after Justice Chitapi ruled that the MDC Alliance was not a juristic person capable of suing or being sued, Mahere asserted that the MDC Alliance was, and remains a political party. She said:
Political parties aren’t created in the courtroom.
Political parties are voluntary associations. We don’t become a political party because the court said so; we become a political party because we are.
That’s why we contested in 2018, that’s why we fought the presidential election petition in 2018.
