ZIPRA commander Cde Nleya declared national hero

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared liberation war veteran ZIPRA commander Cde Stanley Nleya who died this Tuesday a national hero.

Confirming the development at the Nleya home in Bulawayo this Friday, Zanu PF Secretary for Administration, Dr Obert Mpofu said the honour was without question considering the late national hero’s contributions to the liberation struggle.

The Nleya family thanked government and the President for the gesture saying it is well deserved.

Cde Nleya whose Chimurenga name Gagisa was one of the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army’s (ZIPRA) commanders during the war of independence.

He also trained current Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Phillip Valerio Sibanda.

Cde Nleya succumbed to heart disease on Tuesday at United Bulawayo Hospitals where he had been admitted.

He is survived by three children and two grandchildren. Mourners are gathered at Number 30 New Luveve in Bulawayo.
