Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Youngerson Matete a Zimbabwean pro-democracy and human rights activist and a Political Science Student has reportedly been taken by the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO).
Matete is a co-founder and executive director of Project Vote 263, a non-governmental organisation programme that has been facilitating the registration of new voters throughout the country since 2021.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, Project Vote 263 appealed to Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) to assist the activist. Reads the statement:
ALERT: We are receiving reports that our director @MateteYoung has been taken in by the CIO while carrying out fieldwork on behalf PV263 in Zvishavane. He is currently in custody together with Councillor Keta (Ward 1 Zvishavane). More details to follow.
