Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Twenty-eight (28) healthcare workers lost more than ZWL$5 million to a conwoman only identified as Mai Two (The Mother of Two).
Police said on Wednesday, the suspected fraudster received the cash from an employee at a local hospital on the pretext she needed money in local currency in exchange for United States dollars to pay duty at Plumtree Border Post.
According to the police, the complainant mobilised his workmates to raise ZWL$5 415 000 which was then sent to Mai Two.
But after receiving the cash, the suspect “disappeared from the communication platforms”. Police said:
The ZRP is investigating a case of fraud that occurred on 15/02/23 in which a suspect, only identified as Mai Two and contactable on 0719 036 519, defrauded complainants ZWL$5 415 000.
The suspect contacted one of the complainants on the phone claiming that she was at Plumtree Border Post and was in need of local currency in exchange for United States dollars, for payment of duty for a motor vehicle.
The complainant mobilised his 27 workmates at a local hospital in Bulawayo, and deposited the money in various bank accounts and Ecocash number 0779 148 974, provided by the suspect.
The suspect then disappeared from the communication platforms after getting the money.
