Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. CONDOLENCE messages for late High Court Judge Justice Owen Tagu (54) continue to pour in after his passing Tuesday.

Tagu succumbed to kidney failure at The Avenues Clinic in Harare after serving for 10 years as a High Court Judge.

“The late Justice Tagu was an accomplished jurist. We will forever be indebted to him for his immense contribution to the administration of justice in our country.

“We express our sincere and profound condolences to his family and friends,” said the Zimbabwe National Lawyers Forum (ZNLF) Friday.

Tagu passed the historic judgement allowing fathers to apply for their children’s birth certificates without the mothers’ presence.

He also confirmed illegality of a 2019 internet shutdown following nationwide protests.

“The President of the Law Society of Zimbabwe, Councillor Rumbidzai Matambo, Councillors, members of the profession and the Secretariat have learnt with profound grief of the untimely passing on of Honourable Justice Owen Tagu,” read a statement from the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ).

“We would like to express our deepest condolences to the Tagu family on this our collective loss.”

Having joined the Justice Ministry in 1992, Tagu was appointed a Senior Regional Magistrate in 2007 before his 2013 promotion by then President Robert Mugabe.

Details of his burial are yet to be shared.
