Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Jennifer Aniston is said to be “really struggling” after the death of her Friends co-star Matthew Perry.
The 54-year-old is battling to cope with the loss of her friend, after the death of her father, John Aniston, less than a year ago, sources say.
The actress was seen last week alongside her castmates Courteney Cox (59), David Schwimmer (57), Lisa Kudrow (60) and Matt LeBlanc (54) at Matthew’s funeral at Forest Lawn cemetery in Los Angeles.
Matthew, who endured a decades-long battle with drugs and booze, died unexpectedly on 28 October after drowning in his jacuzzi at his LA home.
“It’s a second massive loss in less than a year, with the one-year anniversary of her dad’s death just around the corner. She still hasn’t fully regained her footing from that, and now this has just completely knocked her off her feet.”
Despite doing her best “to regroup and recover . . . it’s been a completely devastating blow”.
The funeral, which was attended by only close friends and family, was reportedly a highly emotional affair with “lots of tears and laughter”, a source says.
Last November when her dad passed away at the age of 89, Jen wrote an emotional post, describing the Days of Our Lives star as “one of the most beautiful humans I ever knew”.
A few days after Matthew died, the Friends cast issued a joint statement describing their shock and sadness.
Jen was apparently one of the first to arrive at Matthew’s funeral.
Insiders say she’d been “dreading” the day for 20 years.
“It doesn’t matter whether he died as a result of a freak accident or whether it was directly connected to his drug issues, this was a day that Jennifer had dreaded coming for 20 years. She always wanted to help Matthew any way she could, that was a constant,” a friend of Jennifer’s told the Daily Mail.
Matthew’s chronic drug and alcohol addiction was an open secret on the set of the hit sitcom during its run from 1994-2004.
Jen tried to support him as much as she could, and even after the show ended, she continued to check in with him.
Ahead of the release of his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing last year, Matthew spoke of Jen’s unconditional support.
“She was the one that reached out the most. You know, I’m really grateful to her for that,” he said in an interview with Diane Sawyer.
It’s believed Matthew died of a heart attack. No drugs were found at the scene of his death and toxicology tests revealed no traces of drugs in his body.
