Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. HARARE giants Caps United have made their intentions of restoring their former glory known after they unveiled Takesure Chiragwi as their new head coach at Harare Sports Club yesterday.

This move signals a massive shift as the club attempts to climb back to the summit of Zimbabwean football after nearly a decade without a major domestic trophy.

The excitement was palpable as club president Farai Jere presented Chiragwi, who is renowned for winning the 2023 league title with Ngezi Platinum Stars.

His recent success offers a stark contrast to Caps United’s fortunes, a once-dominant force that has been entangled in consecutive relegation battles, finishing the just-ended season a precarious ninth.

Their last league championship was in 2016, a painful nine-year wait for their passionate supporters.

Chiragwi’s appointment, officially effective January 1, 2026, is part of a comprehensive overhaul.

He brings with him a sizeable technical team from Ngezi Platinum, including former Kaizer Chiefs midfield maestro Tinashe Nengomasha as the new team manager, alongside goalkeepers’ coach Cloudious Gundudza and performance analysts Garry Muchakata and John Vera.

Ian Bakala, who held the reins last season, is retained as assistant coach, a set-up club officials confirm was the initial mid-season plan before Ngezi blocked the move.

The coach was introduced alongside 11 high-profile new signings confirmed on pre-contract agreements.

Crucially, this includes an impressive haul of eight players from his former club: defenders Nyasha Gurende and Kudzwai Chigwida, midfielders Richard Hachiro, Talent Chamboko, and Macdonald Makuwe, and forwards Delic Murimba and Obriel Chirinda.

They are joined by goalkeeper Wallace Magalene, Brett Amidu and Chawananga Kawonga.

Jere’s determination to end the club’s trophy drought is backed by a landmark US$4,3 million sponsorship deal signed in August with Lesotho’s Green Dollar Development Bank.

This three-year multi-million-dollar partnership, also starting in January 2026, provides structured funding for player welfare, infrastructure, and operations.

The boost is critical as Caps United prepares to compete against the new wave of cash-rich, dominant clubs like newly crowned champions Scottland FC, 2024 winners Simba Bhora, Ngezi Platinum, and four-time champions FC Platinum.

The unveiling of a proven, league-winning coach and a powerful injection of talent and capital signals that the Green Machine is done fighting for survival.

Their mission is clear: the return to glory, with Chiragwi leading the charge.
