Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>THE last two weeks of October saw 24-year-old Kelvin Chisanako\u2019s life transforming overnight as he went on a spending spree in a community wreaking with poverty.<\/p>\n

His fellow villagers in Mwenezi, Masvingo province, were left awe-struck by the speed with which he acquired assets which included a Toyota Aqua vehicle, building material and trendy suits, all in a space of two weeks.<\/p>\n

Their suspicions were put to rest last week after all after it emerged that these were fruits of ill-gotten wealth.<\/p>\n

Chisanako was arrested this Sunday for allegedly stealing a cash box containing a whopping US$20 000 from cash-in-transit security guards who gave him a lift along the Beitbridge-Mutare Highway on October 17.<\/p>\n

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday Chisanako\u2019s arrest, adding that the vehicle was transporting cash from Beitbridge to Mutare.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn 03 November 2024, police in Masvingo arrested the suspect at Mangwawo village, Mawarire, Mwenezi after receiving information that he was in possession of large sums of cash. The suspect revealed to the police that he stole the money from the cash-in- transit vehicle which he boarded at Lutumba Business Centre, Beitbridge,\u201d Nyathi said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe arrest led to the recovery of US$ 600 as well as ZAR 2 320 cash, an empty cash box and a Toyota Aqua vehicle, registration number AGO 5702, which the suspect bought for US$9 800.<\/p>\n

\u201cInvestigations by the police established that the suspect used part of the money to buy 30×12-feet roofing sheets, 35x50kg bags of cement, seven window frames, two French doors, 15 000 farm bricks, a cellphone and three men\u2019s suits.\u201d<\/p>\n
