As they make their way through the city, visitors are greeted by the stunning sight of the Eastridge Shopping Mall, its gleaming facade reflecting the sun\u2019s rays like a shimmering mirage.<\/p>\n

The mall\u2019s modern design, complete with sleek lines, curved architecture and expansive glass windows, seems to defy gravity, as if floating effortlessly above the bustling streets below.<\/p>\n

Nearby, the Central Park Shopping Mall beckons, its elegant design creates a tranquil oasis amid the urban bustle.<\/p>\n

The mall\u2019s interior is equally impressive, with gleaming marble floors, sparkling chandeliers and a vibrant atmosphere that seems to pulse with energy.<\/p>\n

As the visitors continue with their journey, they come face-to-face with the majestic Lenon Quality Hotel, its sleek, modern design and opulent amenities exuding an aura of luxury and sophistication.<\/p>\n

The hotel\u2019s imposing structure seems to dominate the surrounding landscape, its presence a testament to the city\u2019s growing reputation as a hub of commerce, tourism, and innovation.<\/p>\n

In recent times, the city of Mutare has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as a beacon of modernity and innovation in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

Central to this urban renaissance is Leonard Mukumba, a visionary businessman whose endeavours in the hotel and transport sectors have reshaped the city\u2019s economic landscape.<\/p>\n

Mukumba, who also owns Inter Africa luxury coaches, has spearheaded the development of two exquisite shopping malls and a hotel in Mutare: Eastridge Shopping Mall, Central Park Shopping Mall and the luxurious Lenon Quality Hotel.<\/p>\n

Each of these establishments not only enhances the city\u2019s aesthetic appeal, but also embodies the principles of a smart city \u2014 integrating technology, sustainability and community engagement.<\/p>\n

In an interview during the tour of his properties by Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Misheck Mugadza recently, Mukumba shared his commitment to the smart city concept, emphasising the importance of creating a conducive business environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy goal is to ensure that Mutare is not just a place to live, but a thriving hub for entrepreneurship and innovation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

His vision extends beyond mere aesthetics; he aims to foster economic growth and create employment opportunities for the local community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want Mutare to be the best city in Zimbabwe. Mutare is my home. I was born in Mutare and I want to invest in Mutare,\u201d Mukumba said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy appeal goes to Mutare City Council to give me more land and space so that I build one of the biggest malls in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will benefit the people of Mutare and create more employment to the locals.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mukumba said he borrowed the smart city concept from overseas in countries that he regularly visits.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got inspiration from other countries that I visit. I have been to the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Australia and mainly China, where I have seen good malls. So I told myself I am taking this initiative back home,\u201d the transport mogul said.<\/p>\n

Mukumba\u2019s shopping malls have become a focal point for businesses and consumers alike.<\/p>\n

The impact of his investments on the local economy cannot be overstated.<\/p>\n

By creating modern shopping spaces, he has paved the way for numerous entrepreneurs to set up shop, contributing to job creation and economic diversification.<\/p>\n

Mugadza said the new dispensation led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa had adopted the smart city concept.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Mutare, I am happy that we have our own indigenous business people like Leonard Mukumba, who are investing towards the smart city concept,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMutare is the capital of Manicaland province and it now has magnificent and upmarket buildings that have, indeed, changed the face of Mutare. This is what President Mnangagwa is calling for.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Provincial Affairs minister added that there are investors from outside who have shown interest in investing in Mutare.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe land is available and we are telling everyone who is willing to come and invest in Mutare and Manicaland. The conditions are conducive and the return on investment is guaranteed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mugadza also urged owners of old buildings in Mutare to revamp them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am calling for the owners of the old buildings to revamp them. We cannot continue occupying more land, but, let\u2019s move with times and build upwards and the sky should be the limit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we do that, we are also creating employment and at the same time improving the province\u2019s gross domestic product [GDP].\u201d<\/p>\n

This economic upliftment is evident in the increasing foot traffic in the malls, as consumers flock to enjoy the enhanced shopping experience.<\/p>\n

Mukumba\u2019s relentless pursuit of progress reflects a deep-seated belief in the potential of Mutare to become a leading smart city in the region.<\/p>\n
