Fortune Chasi, the former Energy Minister and a lawyer, commented on these changes, explaining their implications. He wrote:<\/p>\n

The Government of Zimbabwe has introduced new retirement policies for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) under Statutory Instrument (SI) 201 of 2024, effective January 1, 2025. Here\u2019s what you need to know.<\/p>\n

The pensionable service period for ZRP officers has been extended from 20 years to 30 years. Officers will now serve longer before qualifying for pension benefits.<\/p>\n

Changes to the retirement age align with broader civil service reforms. The retirement age for civil servants has been raised to 70, with early retirement options at 60. Similar adjustments for ZRP officers are anticipated.
\nMany officers previously hesitated to retire due to financial constraints, citing insufficient savings to sustain post-retirement life. These reforms aim to address such challenges.<\/p>\n

By extending service periods, the government seeks to ensure officers are better prepared financially for retirement, enhancing their welfare post-service.<\/p>\n
