Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>A 31-year-old man from Mwenezi narrowly escaped losing his hands after a fierce encounter with a baboon.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred last Friday while he was guarding a field with his uncle, turning a typical human-wildlife conflict into a literal battle for survival.<\/p>\n

Tawanda Gijima, from Rushamhu Village under Chief Neshuro in Mwenezi, sustained severe injuries to both hands and is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.<\/p>\n

His sister, Violet Mahondo, confirmed the incident to The Mirror. She said they are seeking financial assistance to cover Gijima\u2019s medical bills and purchase necessary medication.<\/p>\n

According to Mahondo, Gijima and his uncle were guarding their field from baboons around 2 PM when a baboon, chased by dogs from a nearby field, entered their field.<\/p>\n

The baboon killed one of the dogs during the skirmish, prompting Gijima to flee. However, he tripped and fell on a tree stump.<\/p>\n

The baboon pursued Gijima and, failing to grab him by the neck, began attacking his arms, resulting in the deep cuts he sustained. Said Mahondo:<\/p>\n

My brother screamed for help and our uncle ran to his aid and managed to chase the baboon away. The baboon left deep bites on Gijima\u2019s hands.<\/p>\n

Gijima didn\u2019t immediately go to the hospital and only went after receiving help from a well-wisher. Added Mahondo:<\/p>\n

My brother needs medication and we don\u2019t have the money. We are appealing for assistance to meet his hospital bills and buy medication.<\/p>\n
