Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Prominent lawyer and opposition figure Fadzayi Mahere has publicly challenged government spokesperson Nick Mangwana with a series of tough questions following what she described as a misleading presentation of the venue used for Zimbabwe\u2019s 45th Independence Day celebrations.<\/p>\n

Mahere criticised Minister of Housing and Social Amenities, Daniel Garwe, accusing him of lying to the public by claiming that the government had \u201cbuilt a new, fully equipped modern stadium\u201d for the national event.<\/p>\n

She questioned why such statements were made when, in reality, the structure failed to meet basic standards.<\/p>\n

Mahere also pressed for clarity on the quality of the construction, asking why the minister had claimed the stadium would meet the \u201chighest standards\u201d when images and reports from the event told a different story\u2014one of poor planning and substandard facilities.<\/p>\n

Mahere demanded answers on how much public money was spent on the so-called stadium, and who was contracted to build it.
\nShe highlighted the installation of bucket seats that reportedly sank into the mud and couldn\u2019t be used, raising concerns over whether a proper public tender process was followed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs the government going to recover the money it spent, or was this just another excuse to loot public funds?\u201d she asked, drawing comparisons with the Gwanda Solar Project, where businessman Wicknell Chivayo was allegedly paid millions for work that never materialised.<\/p>\n

In a direct challenge to Mangwana and the government, Mahere asked, \u201cAre you proud of what you did yesterday? What image did you paint of Zimbabwe at 45? Do you think any nation looks at your nonsense and says, we want to be like that?\u201d<\/p>\n
