Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Zimbabwe\u2019s tobacco industry has hit a new record, with sales for the 2025 marketing season reaching 316.8 million kilogrammes by 25 June\u2014far surpassing the 216 million kilogrammes sold during the same period last year.
\nAccording to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB), the increased volume has earned farmers US$1.06 billion, with the average price remaining steady at US$3.35 per kilogramme. The TIMB said:
\nSo far, a massive 316.8 million kgs have been sold, smashing last year\u2019s total of 216 million kgs sold during the same period! Farmers have earned US$1.06 BILLION with an average price of $3.35 per kg as of 25 June 2025.
\nThis makes the 2025 season one of the most profitable in recent years and highlights tobacco\u2019s continued role as the country\u2019s top agricultural export.
\nThis year\u2019s season began under stricter regulations to reduce side marketing and improve transparency. Measures such as a new biometric grower registration system were introduced to ensure only verified farmers could sell their crop.
\nTobacco remains especially important for Zimbabwe\u2019s rural economy, with over 80% of the crop produced by smallholder farmers.
\nIt continues to be a major source of income for households and a key contributor to the country\u2019s foreign currency earnings.<\/p>\n
