SANCTIONS imposed on Zimbabwe by the US mirror the aspirations of Zimbabweans, MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has said.<\/p>\n
The measures imposed on former President Robert Mugabe and his administration in 2001 under the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act (Zidera) which stand to this day have been blamed for the country\u2019s economic as well as political problems.<\/p>\n
Chamisa was speaking Thursday at the launch of his party\u2019s policy document, Return to Legitimacy, Openness And Democracy (RELOAD).<\/p>\n
He said Zidera was exactly what Zimbabweans were fighting Zanu PF for.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven when you look at Zidera, it is actually supposed to give us an indication. Zidera is actually the aspirations of all Zimbabwe. What they want to see is democracy. That is how we must be to look at it,\u201d said Chamisa.<\/p>\n
The youthful opposition leader lost last year\u2019s presidential elections to Zanu PF leader, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.<\/p>\n
He rejected the poll result, sought to overturn it at the Constitutional Court, lost again but insists he won.<\/p>\n
Chamisa told his audience that most observer missions to last year\u2019s elections had raised red flags on issues that must be addressed in Zimbabwe before a credible election is held.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all know what has to be done, the international community knows what has to be done.<\/p>\n
\u201cLook at the IRI-NDI (International Republican Institute\/National Democratic Institute) election observer report, look at the Commonwealth report, the European Union Observer Mission report, Sadc Observer Mission report and African Union report, they are all clear in terms of the catalogue of issues of that have to be done,\u201d said Chamisa.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet us implement those and then go and say we have implemented our own issues. Let us do business but it all boils down to leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n
Added Chamisa: \u201cGenuine business would want to come where there is confidence and trust because capital hates noise, they will never come here because of our cockpit noise.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mugabe argued until his removal from power that Zimbabwe was being punished for compulsorily taking land from whites to redistribute to blacks, blaming the country\u2019s economic meltdown on the sanctions.<\/p>\n
While Mugabe\u2019s successor President Emmerson Mnangagwa has oscillated between blame and accepting blame for government failures, the measures remain a source of acrimony between the twGolden Arrows coach Steve Komphela is hopeful that the Warriors duo of left back Devine Lunga and midfielder Danny Phiri\u2019s participation at AFCON 2019 will inspire their colleagues at the South African club.<\/p>\n
The two players represented Zimbabwe at the continental extravaganza and in Komphela\u2019s view, it\u2019s not about how they performed, it\u2019s about being there and what it brings to their teammates.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not about how they performed, the most important thing is we are associated with them, we share the platform with them,\u201d Komphela said according to Kick Off Magazine.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will come back and rub off on our players this side. When they come back we will make an example of Lunga and Phiri, and it will also tell others that it\u2019s possible. It\u2019s a great pleasure and inspiration,\u201d he added.
