Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Just 10 months after its grand unveiling, Highglen Road leading to the Trabablas Interchange in Harare is already showing cracks.<\/p>\n

A massive pothole has appeared on the road, sparking ridicule and concern on social media over the quality of the US$88 million project.<\/p>\n

President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially commissioned the interchange on 30 May 2025.<\/p>\n

The structure sits at the busy junction of Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza, and High Glen roads, a key artery in the capital.<\/p>\n

Despite the hefty price tag, the road surface has already been compromised.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Saturday, 7 February, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development explained that a burst underground water pipe was to blame for the pothole.<\/p>\n

The Ministry added that Fossils Contracting Company, which constructed the interchange, has pledged to assist the City of Harare with labour to replace and reroute the pipe, to prevent a repeat of the problem. The statement reads:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development teams are out in full throttle on Highglen road (Chambati Area) 1.2km from the Trabablas Interchange, where the road was damaged as a result of a burst old underground water pipe belonging to the City of Harare.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn line with the whole of Government approach, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has intervened and procured the necessary pipes and accessories to replace and reroute the old pipe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe contractor for the Trabablas Interchange has offered to assist the City of Harare with the labour to replace and reroute the water pipe to avoid such occurrences in future.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ministry wishes to apologise for any inconveniences the Public might encounter<\/p>\n

during the execution of these works.\u201d<\/p>\n
