Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to an effective three years in prison by the Harare Magistrates\u2019 Court after being convicted of culpable homicide arising from negligent driving.<\/p>\n

Tadiwa Muswere was initially given a five-year sentence, with two years suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve three years behind bars.<\/p>\n

The court also cancelled his driver\u2019s licence and banned him from driving for two years.<\/p>\n

The court heard that on 4 July 2025, at around 1:45 pm, Muswere was travelling at excessive speed along Nemakonde Road, just after the Westgate roundabout in Harare. He lost control of his vehicle and collided with a Toyota Quantum carrying 10 passengers.<\/p>\n

An eight-year-old passenger died from injuries sustained in the crash.<\/p>\n

Muswere was charged with driving at excessive speed, failing to keep a proper lookout, and failing to maintain control of his vehicle.<\/p>\n

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomed the conviction, saying it serves as a reminder that negligent driving will not be tolerated by the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n
