Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>A 46-year-old woman appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo yesterday facing theft of trust property charges.<\/p>\n

Susan Shamiso Charewa was remanded in custody to May 28 pending investigations, with the State represented by prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawo.<\/p>\n

The court heard that Charewa and the complainant, Patience Makuvire, had been friends since 2020.<\/p>\n

In October 2021, Makuvire learnt of a land developer, Cabox, offering residential stands in the Westlea area of Harare and tasked Charewa to conduct due diligence and negotiate a payment plan.<\/p>\n

It is alleged Charewa confirmed the stands were legitimate, prompting Makuvire to proceed with the purchase.<\/p>\n

On October 21 and 23, 2025, Makuvire reportedly gave Charewa US$10 000 and US$9 900 respectively, which were paid to the developer.<\/p>\n

However, on November 4, 2025, Makuvire allegedly handed over a further US$13 500 for the same purpose, which Charewa is accused of converting to her own use.<\/p>\n

The court heard that Makuvire made several follow-ups requesting proof of payment, but Charewa became evasive.<\/p>\n

Makuvire later approached the developer and was informed that no such payment had been made, leading her to file a police report.<\/p>\n

As a result, Makuvire suffered a prejudice of US$13 500, which has not been recovered.<\/p>\n
