The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says the justice system remains committed to protecting communities and making sure violent offenders are held to account.<\/p>\n
This follows the High Court in Harare convicting Jaison Muvevi, 45, of Negombwe Village in Wedza, on eight counts linked to a deadly shooting spree. Four people died, and several others were injured in Harare, Wedza and Mutare.<\/p>\n
Muvevi was given four life sentences for murder and 10 years for each of four counts of attempted murder. He committed the crimes between November 2022 and January 2023.<\/p>\n
On 19 November 2022 in Eastlea, Harare, Muvevi shot and killed Nyarai Round after a dispute. Nyasha Eusen survived after being shot in the shoulder during the same incident.<\/p>\n
On 13 January 2023, Muvevi stormed an apostolic church shrine in Wedza and fatally shot Prophet Chrispen Kanerutsine. Police who responded to the scene came under fire.<\/p>\n
The then officer-in-charge of Wedza Police Station, Maxwell Hove, was shot and killed in the exchange.<\/p>\n
Detective Constable Tendai Mugova was shot and wounded, while police officer Godwin Mutungambera narrowly escaped death after Muvevi fired at him. Muvevi fled with two police firearms.<\/p>\n
Later, during the manhunt, Muvevi shot and killed Munashe Majanhi at Mukamba Business Centre.<\/p>\n
On 15 January 2023 at Mutare Boys High School, he fired three shots at Raphael Nyahwema but missed.<\/p>\n
After crossing into Mozambique illegally, Muvevi was arrested on 16 January 2023 and deported to Zimbabwe the next day to face justice.<\/p>\n
