Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>HARARE, Jul. 13, 2026 (NewsDay Live) \u2013 The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has acquired 165 motor vehicles under a fleet renewal programme aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening the supervision of local authorities, district and provincial offices across Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the official handover of more than 30 vehicles on Monday, Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe said the latest delivery formed part of a broader procurement exercise, with additional vehicles still expected.<\/p>\n

Garwe said the investment would address longstanding transport shortages that had constrained the ministry\u2019s ability to monitor, coordinate and evaluate programmes across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, we are symbolically handing over more than 30 motor vehicles, which form part of a larger fleet acquisition programme. To date, the ministry has successfully procured 165 motor vehicles, with additional vehicles expected to be delivered in due course,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the new fleet represented a significant investment in strengthening the ministry\u2019s operational capacity to execute its constitutional mandate.<\/p>\n

Garwe thanked the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion for funding the acquisition, saying it reflected government\u2019s commitment to building an efficient and responsive public service.<\/p>\n

He also acknowledged support from private sector partners, particularly companies in the land development and construction sectors, as well as development partners working through the Local Authorities Technical Support Unit (LATSU).<\/p>\n

Under the initiative, the ministry received technical equipment including computers, printers, plotters and specialised tools for planners, engineers, valuers, architects and other technical personnel.<\/p>\n

Garwe said the equipment would improve planning, monitoring and evaluation while supporting evidence-based decision-making across the ministry.<\/p>\n

He directed Permanent Secretary John Basera to ensure the vehicles were distributed without delay, with district offices receiving first priority, followed by provincial offices before allocations to the head office.<\/p>\n

Garwe urged government officials entrusted with the vehicles to use them strictly for official business and ensure they were properly maintained.<\/p>\n

He said the investment would strengthen implementation of the National Development Strategy 2 and improve service delivery as the government pursues Vision 2030.<\/p>\n
