A visiting high powered delegation from China Lesso Group, a Hong Kong Stock Exchange-listed firm which deals in agriculture equipment has expressed its willingness to invest in the country\u2019s agricultural sector following its tour of some farms in Mashonaland west province.
\nThe delegation is in the country following the First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa\u2019s recent visit to China.<\/p>\n
Accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement, the delegation\u2019s first port of call was Bonata farm which is farming tomatoes and raspberries for the export market.<\/p>\n
The delegation noted that if the farm could improve their greenhouses and irrigation systems they could maximise on yields.<\/p>\n
From Bonita the delegation proceeded to Moncriss farm which has sixty hectares under maize and wheat. After the tour Lesso General Manager Yi Biao Lwo said they have noted some areas which require improved technology.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe tours have broadened our view of Zimbabwe\u2019s agricultural sector and we have seen the areas where we could chip in like installing solar irrigation systems,\u201d said Yi.<\/p>\n
Dr Conrade Zawe a Director in the Department of Irrigation in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement said the Ministry is open for business and will benefit immensely from China\u2019s expertise.<\/p>\n
\u201cChina has more expertise than us and we could benefit a lot especially with the solar irrigation systems seeing that our electricity supply is no longer consistent,\u201d said Zawe.
\nLesso Group has advanced technology like micro jet irrigation which drops water directly onto the plant root thereby reducing the loss of water through evaporation as well as better greenhouse equipment which can last for up to ten years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
