Former Harare mayor Elias Mudzuri, who served as MDC co-vice president between 2016 and 2019, has urged Nelson Chamisa and Thokozani Khupe, leaders of opposing MDC factions, to set aside their differences and sit down to find a way forward as far as the leadership of the Party is concerned.<\/p>\n
Mudzuri (EEM) said this during an interview with The Standard Acting News Editor Everson Mushava (EM). Below is a snippet of the interview:<\/p>\n
EM: What \u2026 do you suggest as the way forward?<\/p>\n
EEM: I am aware that there have been expressions of opposing views, trading of nasty words, accusations and counter-accusations, anger and frustrations, but I think we need to sober up, sit down together and face the reality of the judgement and its far-reaching implications to the well-being of the party.<\/p>\n
The starting point is to accept that we erred in the manner in which we handled the succession and transformation matrixes of the party.<\/p>\n
We need to acknowledge that this succession wrangle threatens to tear the party apart.<\/p>\n
It creates the best opportunity for the leadership of the MDC to pause and avert a possible bruising split that will not benefit anyone except our opponents.<\/p>\n
We must get into the 2023 harmonised elections as a united family with one objective of taking over power from Zanu PF so as to change the fortunes of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
We must not betray the people of Zimbabwe who in the more than two decades have invested so much into this project of change for a better Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
Mudzuri made the remarks after the Supreme Court ruled that Chamisa was an illegitimate leader of the MDC, opening the way for his rival Khupe to lead the party on an interim basis pending an extraordinary congress within three months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
