{"id":26368,"date":"2020-08-12T15:19:03","date_gmt":"2020-08-12T13:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=26368"},"modified":"2020-08-12T15:19:03","modified_gmt":"2020-08-12T13:19:03","slug":"high-court-to-rule-on-mdc-a-youth-leader-bail-appeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/high-court-to-rule-on-mdc-a-youth-leader-bail-appeal","title":{"rendered":"High Court To Rule On MDC-A Youth Leader Bail Appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Imprisoned MDC Alliance youth organising secretary Godfrey Kurauone will appear at the Masvingo High Court for a bail hearing this Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Kurauone was denied freedom at the magistrates\u2019 court last week in a case where he is accused of inciting citizens to push for President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s ouster.<\/p>\n<p>The State alleges that on June 20 this year, Kurauone, a Masvingo councillor, circulated a video song on social media urging people to revolt.<\/p>\n<p>He is also accused of participating in the failed July 31 anti-corruption protests in which he allegedly blocked free movement of vehicles in Masvingo on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Kurauone is denying both charges.<\/p>\n<p>MDC Alliance youth spokesperson Stephen Chuma on Tuesday said Kurauone, who is incarcerated at Masvingo Remand Prison, is being denied access to proper medication and healthy food in contravention of the Prisons Act.<\/p>\n<p>Chuma said President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s government has resorted to persecuting Kurauone just as the racist Ian Smith regime used detention as a tool to silence critics.<\/p>\n<p>He cited the cases of Hopewell Chin\u2019ono and Jacob Ngarivhume who are languishing at Chikurubi Maximum Prison for speaking out against corruption.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Imprisoned MDC Alliance youth organising secretary Godfrey Kurauone will appear at the Masvingo High Court for a bail hearing this Wednesday.
