The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has dismissed claims that the late MDC Alliance councillor Lavender Chiwaya was murdered.<\/p>\n
In a statement, police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said postmortem results indicated Chiwaya was not murdered. The statement read:<\/p>\n
The police want to make it clear that the postmortem results have ruled out any assault, physical harm or any body perforation on Lavender Chiwaya. The police are now awaiting toxicology tests to get full facts on the cause of death.<\/p>\n
The police are still pursuing allegations of alcohol abuse and girlfriends which were raised during the course of investigations into Lavender Chiwaya\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores the public to allow the investigations to proceed smoothly and those with information to contact the investigating officer.<\/p>\n
Chiwaya was the councillor for Hurungwe Ward 4. His body was found last week on Friday, four houses away from his home.<\/p>\n
The MDC Alliance immediately claimed he was murdered by suspected state agents.<\/p>\n
Chiwaya was buried last Wednesday in Karoi under heavy police presence.<\/p>\n
