{"id":27202,"date":"2020-09-02T20:39:47","date_gmt":"2020-09-02T18:39:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=27202"},"modified":"2020-09-02T20:39:47","modified_gmt":"2020-09-02T18:39:47","slug":"hopewell-chinono-freed-on-10-000-bail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/hopewell-chinono-freed-on-10-000-bail","title":{"rendered":"Hopewell Chin\u2019ono Freed On $10 000 Bail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi on Wednesday released free freelance journalist Hopewell Chin\u2019ono from prison after granting him RTGS$10 000 bail.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Chitapi ordered Chin\u2019ono to report to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) twice a week and not to post messages on social media until the finalisation of his matter.<\/p>\n<p>Chon\u2019ono was arrested on 20 July 2020 and charged with inciting public violence after he used social media to support anti-corruption protests that were being organised by Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume for 31 July.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Wednesday, Justice Musithu released Ngarivhume by granting him $50 000 bail. The High Court ordered the opposition leader to continue reside at the given address, surrender his passport and report 3 times a week at Waterfalls Police Station.<\/p>\n<p>Ngarivhume should report on Monday, Wednesday and Friday\u2019 at the stated police station, the High Court said.<\/p>\n<p>Chin\u2019ono and Ngarivhume are facing similar charges and are both are denying the charges.<\/p>\n<p>Following the release of the duo, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) thanked its lawyers for working hard to secure Chin\u2019ono and Ngarivhume\u2019s freedom.
