Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The United Kingdom\u2019s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has directed that people with a history of significant allergic reactions should not receive the COVID-19 vaccine being developed by Pfizer.<\/p>\n

This came after two National Health Service (NHS) workers experienced symptoms on Wednesday after taking the vaccine.<\/p>\n

The Guardian reports that both of the NHS staff The NHS workers are said to have developed symptoms of \u201canaphylactoid reaction\u201d shortly after receiving the vaccine, and both have recovered after treatment.<\/p>\n

The MHRA advice states:<\/p>\n

Any person with a history of a significant allergic reaction to a vaccine, medicine or food (such as previous history of anaphylactoid reaction or those who have been advised to carry an adrenaline autoinjector) should not receive the Pfizer\/BioNtech vaccine. Resuscitation facilities should be available at all times for all vaccinations. Vaccination should only be carried out in facilities where resuscitation measures are available.<\/p>\n

This was reiterated by Prof Stephen Powis, the national medical director for the NHS in England who said on a precautionary basis, people with a significant history of allergic reactions must not receive this vaccination.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the patient information leaflet with the Pfizer\/BioNTech vaccine says:<\/p>\n

Signs of an allergic reaction may include itchy skin rash, shortness of breath and swelling of the face or tongue.<\/p>\n

NHS England confirmed the two incidents and said all trusts had now been advised not to give the jab to people with a history of an allergic reaction.<\/p>\n

This happens when the world is still grappling with COVID-19 which seems to have regained momentum in some parts of the World.<\/p>\n
