Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Supporters of MDC-T interim secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora on Wednesday staged a demonstration at the party headquarters in an attempt to discredit the voters roll favoured by the party interim leader Thokozani Khupe.<\/p>\n

The protestors claimed that Khupe\u2019s preferred voters\u2019 roll, which is based on the 2014 MDC-T structures, which was adopted by the party, belongs to the rival MDC Alliance.<\/p>\n

Mwonzora and Khupe have clashed previously over the voters\u2019 roll to be used this Sunday at the party\u2019s Supreme Court-ordered extraordinary congress.<\/p>\n

A party insider, who refused to be named, told NewsDay yesterday that Mwonzora\u2019s backers staged a mini demonstration. He said:<\/p>\n

They mobilised and came to Richard Morgan Tsvangirai House, where a meeting of principals that are contesting the presidency was scheduled to begin.<\/p>\n

They were baying for Komichi\u2019s blood, accusing him of trying to rig the party elections by using MDC Alliance 2019 structures which the party used for its botched Gweru congress.<\/p>\n

The principals had to abort the meeting and opted to go and proceed with the meeting at Mudzuri\u2019s House where the previous national council meeting was held last week.<\/p>\n

Mwonzora, Khupe, acting chairperson Morgen Komichi and his deputy Elias Mudzuri are the four contenders to replace founding president Morgan Tsvangirai who died in 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
