Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Emmerson Mnangagwa has congratulated newly elected MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora for his victory in last\u2019s Sunday\u2019s chaotic extraordinary congress.<\/p>\n

In a statement on his social media pages a few hours after it was announced that he will commence his annual leave on 1 January, Mnangagwa said he was happy that Mwonzora is keen on engaging the government and also expressed hope that he will collaborate with the MDC-T leader.<\/p>\n

In a veiled dig at MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa, Mnangagwa said he welcomes Mwonzora\u2019s expressed desire to abandon \u201cyesterday\u2019s politics of destructive confrontation and obstruction\u201d. Wrote Mnangagwa:<\/p>\n

A few days ago, the opposition MDC-T party held its elective congress, in full compliance with, and fulfilment of, court judgments.<\/p>\n

Let me take this opportunity to formally and personally congratulate Senator Douglas Mwonzora for prevailing at that Congress.<\/p>\n

We took particular note of his declared wish to guide and reshape the politics of opposition towards constructive engagement with the Government of the day.<\/p>\n

This is a very welcome move for our Nation which is likely to put politics of rancour behind us, thus triggering collaboration, development and the harmony we solely needed for national progress.<\/p>\n

Both as the Ruling ZANU PF Party, and as the Government, we assure Senate Mwonzora and the MDC-T leadership of collaboration towards the growth of prosperity of our nation.<\/p>\n

We appeal to all those still stuck to yesterday\u2019s politics of destructive confrontation and obstruction to learning from this salutary gesture by the MDC-T.<\/p>\n
