Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>MDC Alliance legislator, Settlement Chikwnya has criticised president Emmerson Mnangagwa for taking his annual leave when the country is facing a serious health crisis.<\/p>\n

Chikwinya speaks as the country\u2019s Health Minister, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and Acting President, Kembo Mohadi, have imposed a national lockdown at the wake of a surge in coronavirus cases.<\/p>\n

The Kwekwe lawmaker said the living standards of the general populace will further deteriorate due to the unceremonious lockdown.<\/p>\n

Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com in an interview, Chikwinya said:<\/p>\n

The difference Zimbabwe has with other countries like South Africa is that our government acts without planning.<\/p>\n

As we speak, the lockdown measures have segregated the poor from the rich.<\/p>\n

The poor have been locked down with no food and no medication so they die of hunger and Covid-19.<\/p>\n

The rich with access to air travels, hotels and other luxuries have been allowed to continue mixing and mingling including travelling and spreading the disease.<\/p>\n

More sadly is that President Mnangagwa is blind to the urgency of the matter.<\/p>\n

No President who cares for his people goes on leave in such a health crisis and leaves an acting President who does not even know how many people have died due to Covid so far.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s just pathetic and Zimbabweans must know that we are on our own.<\/p>\n

His remarks resonate with sentiments by other stakeholders who include vendors and touts who said they were not given enough time to prepare for the lockdown.<\/p>\n

Chikwinya also speaks after MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa had also criticised the ZANU PF government for not considering the lives of the general masses.<\/p>\n
