Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The ruling ZANU PF party has rejected calls by Amnesty International for Zimbabwe to put to an end the selective application of the law and release from prison MDC Alliance national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere, the party\u2019s national vice-chairperson Job Sikhala and journalist Hopewell Chin\u2019ono.<\/p>\n

Responding to an article published by the Newsday newspaper on 18 January 2021 on page 2 titled \u201cRELEASE CHIN\u2019ONO, MAHERE, SIKHALA ED TOLD\u2019, ZANU PF national spokesperson Simon Khaya described Amnesty International\u2019s demands as unwarranted and illegal. Moyo said in a statement:<\/p>\n

\u2026 the revolutionary ZANU PF Party, wishes to put it on record that the governance of the country is premised on the rule of law.<\/p>\n

This implies the separation of powers as evidenced by the existence of the Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe is indeed a Constitutional democracy and not a banana Republic.<\/p>\n

Moyo further said to expect President Emmerson Mnangagwa to interfere with law enforcement agencies and the Judiciary is an absurdity in the extreme.<\/p>\n

He said it is ironic that the same organisations will cry foul if President Mnangagwa interferes with the operations of the courts. Moyo added:<\/p>\n

\u2026 the revolutionary ZANU PF Party takes great exception to the demands by Amnesty International and its acolytes for His Excellency the President Cde E.D. Mnangagwa to release Hopewell Chin\u2019ono, Fadzayi Mahere and Job Sikhala from lawful custody.<\/p>\n

All citizens who are suspected to have committed crimes in Zimbabwe are subjected to due processes of the law irrespective of one\u2019s political affiliation and station in life.<\/p>\n
