Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The ruling ZANU PF has accused MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti of using the COVID-19 pandemic to gain political mileage after he had alleged that the party was to blame for COVID-19 deaths in the country. Below is the party\u2019s statement.<\/b><\/p>\n

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC The Revolutionary ZANU PF Party led by His Excellency the President and First Secretary Cde ED Mnangagwa wishes to reassure all Zimbabweans that concerted effort is being applied to contain the COVID -19 pandemic which is now a global health menace.<\/p>\n

The Covid 19 pandemic does not respect one\u2019s age, status in life or political persuasions etc. So, for anyone to ascribe that the pandemic is targeting certain people of a political party is not only being mischievous but rather being highly irresponsible. Contrary to ridiculous insinuations by Tendai Biti in a story titled \u2018ZANU PF to blame for COVID-19 deaths\u2019 in today\u2019s edition of the Newsday newspaper on page 3, the Revolutionary Party and its leadership is seized with continuously refining strategies meant to contain the Covid 19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unfortunate that politically immature characters like Tendai Biti have sought to derive political capital out of such an unfortunate health challenge bedeviling not only Zimbabwe but the world at large. This deadly pandemic needs to be confronted with a united front. The WHO and Ministry of Health and Child Care guidelines and protocols of masking up, sanitization, regular washing of hands and social distancing need to be religiously adhered to. The Ministry of Health and Child Care has also issued restrictions including the expected numbers allowed to attend funerals which must be respected to the full.<\/p>\n

The Revolutionary Party urges all patriotic Zimbabweans to spread the message of adherence to the WHO and Ministry of Health and Child Care protocols and guidelines to every comer of our nation. In the same vein, the Party urges people in leadership positions thus traditional leaders, church leaders, opinion makers, civic organizations etc. to join hands with Government in conscientising our people about this pandemic which is amidst us. The nation can only win this battle against the COVID-19 pandemic by tackling it head-on and by ignoring shallow and reckless statements as the one attributed to Tendai Biti. Such statements which have paraded Tendai Biti\u2019s ignorance should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.<\/p>\n

The revolutionary Party urges all Zimbabweans to take heed of the wise counsel, by His Excellency, the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF Cde ED Mnangagwa, who has repeatedly called upon all people on every occasion to fight this deadly pandemic as one united family. A wartime approach needs to be applied in battling this deadly pandemic. That is indeed the way to go.<\/p>\n

We mourn all the dead who have succumbed to this pandemic and pray for divide intervention. The prayers and fasting called for by the First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa constitute the tonic to this national challenge.<\/p>\n
