Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Peter Okoye, better known as Mr P, who together with his twin brother, Paul, formed the hugely successful P-Square is set to release his first solo album The Prodigal.<\/p>\n

P-Square, the first Afrobeats supergroup, was disbanded over three years ago in the duo\u2019s acrimonious split. Speaking on his project, Mr P said:<\/p>\n

This is more like me trying to express myself, my creativity. I want to be in charge of myself, I want to get things done. Getting the opportunity for people to know my own sound. My music is not like every song you must play them in the club.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m never a fan of singles. I\u2019m more a fan of projects, album. That\u2019s the kind of person I am.<\/p>\n

Mr P also indicated that production of the record faced challenges including the coronavirus pandemic, political protests and personal tragedy. He said:<\/p>\n

I had one of the worst moments with my family. I caught it, my wife caught it, my daughter\u2026 all my domestic staff. I\u2019m in the guest room, I\u2019m talking to my family on the phone. That\u2019s how we communicated for three weeks.<\/p>\n

People said the government have paid me to claim that I have Covid. Somebody said a comment that really hurt me, [that] I should have died on this Covid so they would know truly, truly that I actually caught it. I was like, wow.<\/p>\n

This was in reference to the recent passing of Mr P\u2019s father-in-law which followed a summer of upheaval when his entire family caught Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Artists like Teni, Simi, Tiwa Savage and Mohombi all make guest appearances. Wande Coal was the collaborator on lead-off single, Follow My Lead.<\/p>\n
