{"id":34509,"date":"2021-02-09T19:42:28","date_gmt":"2021-02-09T17:42:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/?p=34509"},"modified":"2021-02-09T18:16:39","modified_gmt":"2021-02-09T16:16:39","slug":"mugabes-general-douglas-nyikayaramba-dies-from-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/mugabes-general-douglas-nyikayaramba-dies-from-covid-19","title":{"rendered":"Mugabe\u2019s General Douglas Nyikayaramba Dies From Covid-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span><b>By Staff Reporter<\/b> &#8211; RETIRED Lieutenant-General Douglas Nyikayaramba has died from Covid-19 related complications.<\/p>\n<p>The former Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Chief of Staff, was Zimbabwe\u2019s Ambassador to Mozambique after he was retired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Nyikayaramba would be remembered as one of late President Robert Mugabe\u2019s most politically meddlesome generals.<\/p>\n<p>He is also the second serving ambassador to pass on in just under two weeks following that of the country\u2019s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Jethro Ndlovu.<\/p>\n<p>Nyikayaramba becomes one of the highest ranking retired soldiers to succumb to the dreaded disease.<\/p>\n<p>Former Air Force commander Perrance Shiri, later to become agriculture minister, was first of the generals to die from Covid-19 July last year.<\/p>\n<p>Retired top soldier, Sibusiso Moyo died as Foreign Affairs Minister last month together with former Zimbabwe Prisons boss Paradzayi Zimondi, who was also a former top soldier.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
