Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Property experts have urged Harare City Council to allow some buildings in the Central Business District to be turned into residential spaces to increase these buildings\u2019 occupancy rates which have gone down due to many reasons, The Herald reports.<\/p>\n

The city fathers said they were going to review these proposals on a case-by-case basis and urged property owners to bring their proposals.<\/p>\n

The matter came to life at a virtual property market seminar where City of Harare principal town planner Barbara Mugocha said the City was open to the idea and told property owners to approach the city with their proposals:<\/p>\n

If you have a building that you wish to convert to residential, bring your proposal and we look at it as an individual proposal, it cannot be a one size fit all for all buildings.<\/p>\n

This also has to be in line with city laws and town planning. We already have existing plans that have allowances for some floors to be used for residential purposes. But if it comes to converting a whole building, then we have to look at that application, its merits and maybe change the plan.<\/p>\n

The CBD has been left void as companies move out of the CBD to residential areas, while some companies are downsizing due to a number of reasons. Meanwhile, the demand for residential space in the capital is reportedly increasing.<\/p>\n
