Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>By Bulawayo Correspondent<\/b> – MAGISTRATE Sengester Tawengwa Thursday remanded nine Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) activists to 16 March this month after they stormed Bulawayo Central Police Station Wednesday before stoning it and police officers.<\/p>\n

They are facing public violence charges.<\/p>\n

They were protesting over the alleged harassment of their leader Mqondisi Moyo by state security agents.<\/p>\n

Their lawyer, Nqobani Sithole said were remanded in custody to 16 March for bail hearing.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur clients will be in court on the 16th of March for bail hearing,\u201d Sithole told NewZimbabwe.com in an interview.<\/p>\n

The state led by Terrence Chakabuda opposed bail arguing that some of the accused persons are still on the run.<\/p>\n

Police in Bulawayo Wednesday fired gun shots to disperse the MRP supporters who had stormed Bulawayo Central Police Station protesting the alleged harassment of Moyo.<\/p>\n

Police and army officers reportedly raided Moyo\u2019s house Tuesday night with the intention of arresting him. Moyo was reportedly not at the house during the raid.<\/p>\n

In retaliation, MRP supporters besieged Bulawayo Central police. The supporters who were being transported in a white truck branded with the party\u2019s logo started singing and dancing at the driveway entrance to the police station.<\/p>\n

Some of the supporters also burnt tyres in front of the police station and threw at the building and police officers forcing the cops to fire at them and arresting the nine activists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
