{"id":39817,"date":"2021-05-06T19:48:58","date_gmt":"2021-05-06T17:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/?p=39817"},"modified":"2021-05-06T19:11:50","modified_gmt":"2021-05-06T17:11:50","slug":"ex-tourism-minister-mupfumiras-corruption-case-opens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/ex-tourism-minister-mupfumiras-corruption-case-opens","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Tourism Minister Mupfumira\u2019s Corruption Case Opens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Former Tourism Minister Priscah Mupfumira\u2019s corruption and criminal abuse case for crimes allegedly committed during her time at the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare has opened and is expected to continue on May 26.<\/p>\n<p>Mupfumira is accused of ordering the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) to fast track a house-building project in Gweru without NSSA board approval or following tender processes and the authority was prejudiced of US$6 500 000 in the process.<\/p>\n<p>She claims the charges are politically motivated adding they originated during the summit of the Zanu PF factional fighting in 2017 to force her out of politics as she was seen as a strong supporter of then-Vice President Mnangagwa.<\/p>\n<p>She told the court that the allegations were raised soon after attending the launch of the Muzenya Suburb Housing Scheme in Gweru, which was attended by then Vice President Mnangagwa.
