{"id":44275,"date":"2021-07-30T16:27:59","date_gmt":"2021-07-30T14:27:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/?p=44275"},"modified":"2021-07-30T16:25:15","modified_gmt":"2021-07-30T14:25:15","slug":"mdc-veterans-association-suspends-secretary-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/mdc-veterans-association-suspends-secretary-general","title":{"rendered":"MDC Veterans Association Suspends Secretary-General"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The MDC Veterans Association (MDC VA), a welfare body formed by founding members of the opposition party, has suspended its secretary-general over charges of misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>MDC VA spokesperson Blessing Mandava on Thursday confirmed the suspension of secretary-general Charles Musimuki for undermining the leadership and violating the constitution of the organisation. Said Mandava:<\/p>\n<p>Musimuki has been suspended with immediate effect pending disciplinary processes by the national executive of the MDC VA.<\/p>\n<p>He faces charges of unbecoming behaviour and conduct that has not only violated our constitution, but also brought disrepute to MDC VA as an organisation.<\/p>\n<p>The MDC VA was formed in 2008 to look into the welfare of founding members of the opposition party and victims of political violence.<\/p>\n<p>The association has had a love-hate relationship with the opposition party.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, the MDC VA threatened to block MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa, then organising secretary and now party president, from being elected to the standing committee at the elective congress that year.<\/p>\n<p>This came after Chamisa had branded the MDC VA a bogus association.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, the association was also at odds with party officials who were pushing for the disbandment of MDC VA on charges of fomenting divisions and seeking to hijack the opposition party\u2019s programmes.<\/p>\n<p>Following the death of MDC founding president Morgan Tsvangirai in 2018, a vicious power struggle broke out to succeed the trade unionist and the MDC VA threw its weight behind Chamisa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
